I love the saying, “the more you learn, the more you earn,” and I teach this in my trainings all the time. Being involved in direct sales will challenge you daily and personal development is one of the most transformative side effects of being in this industry. We were not born with the skills to lead sales organizations and be amazing conversationalists. These are all learned skills. The fact of the matter is, you must learn how to be resilient and resourceful in this industry.

Get into the habit of reading and incorporate reading business books or listening to business audio books into your daily success routine.

Do you have a daily success routine? If not, you should create one. My daily success routine consists of the following 3 activities:

• Daily Exercise or Meditation
• Personal or self-development including reading, listening to an audio book, youtube video or podcast
• Daily Gratitude

The Go-Giver: Expanded Edition, A Little Story about a Powerful Business Idea

So I learned about this book from an enthusiastic direct sales leader and I had it in my Amazon cart for the longest time before hit “add to cart” and snagged it for my Kindle. This is a fun, quick and easy read and it left me feeling so positive about my future in coaching, leading and teaching women in direct sales. I especially enjoyed learning the “5 Laws of Stratospheric Success” and how they are illustrated in the book in the style of a fable about a businessman named Joe. If more leaders would coach their teams on these laws, they would see exponential growth in their businesses.

The Go-Giver

Girl Wash your Face

This book literally needs to be in every business kit not matter what business, what industry or what brand. It is just the swift kick in the booty that feels like it is coming from your best girlfriend. This isn’t a book with actionable business tips. This is a book to inspire you and give you courage to do the hard things and get through the tough times.

Girl Wash your Face

I loved this book and I think it should be required reading for all lady bosses.

Can’t Hurt Me: Master your Mind and Defy the Odds

So this book is literally on its way to me as I type. The fact of the matter is that I have not yet read it. I am obsessed with David Goggins and learned about this book and his story from a training video on a direct sales coach facebook page. Once I learned about him, I Googled and stalked him until I found his Facebook page and various Youtube videos.

I was very interested in the “40% rule” that he is credited with. The “40% rule” is Goggins theory that most of the time you are only operating at 40% of your capacity. Sure he curses like a sailor but I would expect nothing less from a Navy Seal.

If you love stories of triumph and overcoming adversity, read. this. book. or at least listen to Goggins’ videos. He will truly make you feel like you can do anything in this world.

4. The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy

I listened to this book on Audible and I loved hopping in my car to hear the cheery upbeat voice of Jon Gordon. I learned so much in this book and the best part about it is that it put a smile on my face every time I listened in. The 10 rules to fuel your life, work and team make so much sense and are so easy to remember. This is an absolute must read (or listen to) for an emerging leader or a leader struggling with leading a team to success.

5. How to Win Friends & Influence People

This is a really sweet little read that will help you learn how to have conversations and truly connect with others. I talk about this book in my courses, on social media and everywhere in between. It is super important to understand that you have to put your phone down and truly talk to others.

These books sound so good. I’m going to be adding the Energy Bus to my lineup. Typically I read business books that are based on psychology, because I love to know what makes people tick, makes people buy, and what attracts people to your blog/videos/business, etc.. Right now I’m reading Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely. This book is totally insane (in a good way). It delves into the reasons behind the decisions we make. It’s a book every business owner should read. You should add it to you list.
